The Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) is a national consortium of institutions and investigators organized for the purpose of improving the survival of cancer patients through clinical research.The Group began in 1956 as the Southwest Cancer Chemotherapy Study Group; it has expanded to include all modalities of cancer therapy, and institutions in all regions of the country.  The Statistical Center is essential to the design, conduct and analysis of the cancer research in the Southwest Oncology Group.  The Group is also coordinating two large studies Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial - PCPT and Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial - SELECT  aimed at preventing prostate cancer.

Cancer Research And Biostatistics - CRAB is a non-profit organization founded to support the work of the SWOG Statistical Center.  It is an integral part of the overall structure and operation of the SWOG Statistical Center.  Statistical review, data management, software development, and network administration for SWOG Institutions are jointly performed by the Statistical Center housed at both the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) and Cancer Research And Biostatistics (CRAB).
